MEETINGS
Meetings are held on the last Thursday of the Month (from September to May). Registration is at 9:00am, meeting begins at 9:30am.

New members and their guests are always welcome. An afternoon tea in September introduces MVP activities.

EDCOM: PHILIPPINES—PAST & PRESENT
This is an introductory course covering historical and political events in the Philippines from the pre-Spanish (early) period to the present.   It is divided into two semesters separated by the Christmas/New Year holiday period. The course is provided by the Education Committee  “Edcom” of the Museum Volunteers of the Philippines. STUDY GROUPS
Last approximately 8 weeks, run twice yearly beginning late September and January. They delve into a wide range of topics related to Asian history and culture:

bullet Women in Asia
bullet Filipino Fiestas
bullet Philippine traditional handicrafts
bullet Famous Asian trade routes
bullet Famous literature

Each group member researches an aspect of the topic and then gives a talk to other group members at an informal weekly meeting. No pervious knowledge of a topic or any previous experience of presenting a talk is needed to join a study group.

MVP AFTER EIGHT
MVP After Eight is held at a member's house three or four times a year. Members and guests gather in the evening to hear lectures on a wide range of topics not restricted to the Philippines and Asia. Topics have included:

bullet Piña fabric and weaving
bullet Society, religion, and culture of Bhutan
bullet Indian Classical music
bullet conservation of artifacts
bullet Flamenco

MUSEUM VOLUNTEERING AND LIAISON
Members have been involved in cataloguing collections, restoration work, the designing of educational activity sheets and publicizing museum exhibitions.

MVP has assisted at the National Museum, Ayala Museum, Casa Manila, San Agustin, University of Santo Tomas Museum of Arts and Sciences, Metropolitan Museum, Cultural Center of the Philippines, and the Museum of Ethnology at Nayong Pilipino.

An important MVP activity is assisting at the Ayala Museum guiding visitors around the dioramas. Our Docent Training Programme focuses on Philippine History and how to conduct tours of the dioramas. The course takes place once a week from late September to March. Members who have participated in the programme have found it a very enjoyable and stimulating activity.

TOURS
Domestic tours include historical sites, early churches, old houses, museums and art galleries in Manila and its environs are visited on our car-pool expeditions. Tours often include a restaurant lunch.

There are also opportunities to travel further a field to other regions of the Philippines and to other countries!

SUMMER PROGRAM
Our summer program takes place in Jun/July combining lectures, visits and hands on activities.

NEWSLETTER
Our regular newsletter keeps members in touch with MVP activities and events scheduled at various museums around Manila.

LIBRARY
The book and slide libraries are for members use in preparing talks or when just feeling curious. Our library collection covers a broad range of Asian cultures.
