This November let us explore the fascinating, colorful world of the deep sea and its underwater wildlife with renowned scuba diver, photographer and environmentalist Scott ‘Gutsy’ Tuason. At a fairly young age he has an impressive list of achievements, diving experiences since the age of 12, photography for 20 years, national and international awards for his dazzling work, namely the Grand Prize at the World Festival of Underwater Images at Antibes, Los Angeles Underwater Photographic Society to name just a few. He was also a runner up in the WOW Philippines for underwater and topside photography. He is a regular contributor to prestigious national and international diving magazines, having published 75 articles and 18 cover photos.
Scott has logged 4000 dives in all—abroad in Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, the Maldives, Myanmar, Australia, Palau and Yap, Florida and the Cayman islands, Jamaica and Vietnam and all over the Philippines except for some parts of the north and east. He has recently been diving with the Great White Sharks off the coast of Mexico, fulfilling a lifelong dream.
A devoted environmentalist, he is an active member of the World Wildlife Fund, and director of the Concerned Divers of the Philippines, a group engaged in marine conservation awareness (especially whale sharks) and other rehabilitation projects such as coral reef surveys and cleanup, clam seeding etc. He often participates in fundraising events by presenting slide shows and contributing to their calendars and annual reports.
He has authored 4 beautiful coffee table books, one of them commissioned by Jewelmer, which tells the story of the pearl through photographs, (something of special interest to most of us women), and is the company’s special gift to preferred customers. The others are Anilao, Philippine Coral Reefs, and Bahura.
Come and share the rest of Gutsy’s experiences at our meeting in November. Looking forward to seeing you all!
Guests are welcome.
