First stop - the Sampaloc district of Manila to walk through the Dangwa flower market on Dimasalang Street. Next stop is a building awarded an honourable mention in the 2003 UNESCO Asia - Pacific Heritage Awards for Culture Heritage conservation: the Gota de Leche (“drop of milk”) building in the "university belt". The building was designed in 1915 by Arcadio Arellano, considered one of the founding fathers of Philippine architecture. From there, on to Paco cemetery, constructed around 1820 and which consists of two circular concentric walls with three levels of built-in vaults, which encloses a park and a small chapel popular for weddings. Paco cemetery was the first burial site for the remains of the national hero, Jose Rizal. From there, it is Padre Faura street to end up at the La Solidaridad Bookstore owned by Filipino National Artist, F.Sionil Jose, the foremost Filipino novelist in English, to browse through an extensive collection of Filipino works and maybe even meet the writer! Lunch shall be in a nearby restaurant.
